Kat Pence has been an emergency law enforcement dispatcher since 1993, providing assistance through police, fire and ambulance services for several agencies in Iowa. Certified as a Crime Scene Technician in 2004, she is also certified in Critical Incident Stress and Crisis Intervention through the American Red Cross. Currently working towards her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology, she is also involved in volunteer work for animal welfare organizations, particularly the Humane Society.

Kat is an adopted mom to lost, abandoned and neglected pets ranging from hamsters to cockatiels and every furry creature in between. A sucker for a sad story, Kat has fostered many animals over the years and has a dream of one day building a sanctuary for animals that might otherwise be euthanized or doomed to lives in a cage.

A small sanctuary in its own right, her family consists of husband Curt and teenagers Kate and Megan. They truly make up the largest part of Kat’s life. Without their support, and encouragement she would not be so brave.
