One Daughter's Journey
This photo of my step-father, JJ, was taken during World War II. Mother
and JJ were inseparable in life and in death. He said he knew it was
love at first sight when he met my mother and felt lost without her. He
seemed pleased when friends in Texas sent him a copy of the Tribute I'd
written online for my mother. He survived my mother by only eight
months.
Tomorrow I will once again drive down twenty miles to their apartment and meet my sister to continue packing away their things. Maybe a straw hat will remind us of a dance party my parents threw, or Mother's pastels can be given to the graphic artist at work who fast became a supportive friend the day I abandoned her on chat to leave for Texas, or I will bring home another box of family photographs.
